Another convention has come and gone. New friends made, new techniques learned and so many memories to keep us going until next year. A special thank you to all those who were able to attend!!! I hope you will take the time to share your thoughts and pictures with us on our IAMPETH Facebook page or the Ornamental Penmanship or IAMPETH Yahoo sites.

I’d also like to thank our teachers!! You gave selflessly of your time and talents, not expecting anything in return and that is what keeps the spirit of IAMPETH alive. I am forever grateful!! To all those who helped in any way during the week: I hope you know how much your efforts are appreciated.

The biggest highlight for me was the closing banquet. The room filled with close to 200 people sharing stories about the week and celebrating with Jake Weidmann as he was inducted into the Master Penman Society. Thanks to Dr. Joe Vitolo, you’ll all be able to see highlights of the convention through his video coverage.

I encourage each of you to reserve the time on your calendar for next year’s convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. President Debi Zeinert has already started her planning and I know I’ll be among the first to sign up!!

Hope to see you next year!!!!!

Dear Members,

I’m so excited to present the 2011 Convention Registration information! This year, online registration will begin on March 7th for current IAMPETH members. Keep in mind, registration is limited and this is the only major lettering convention being held this summer. Register early to secure your spot and your top class selections.

In order to register for the convention, you MUST fill out the registration form AND the workshop selection form. This year we will be running three classes at a time, so I’m asking that you select your first and second choice for each time period. Classes will be filled by a first registered, first assigned basis. When a classroom is full, no more spots will be available and if necessary you will be moved to your second choice for that time period. Even if your #1 class choice is filled, the other two classes will be sure to inspire you to learn something new.

Pay special attention to the skill level required for each class. Some classes this year will require a prior knowledge of the skills being taught, while others will be geared for the absolute beginner. There will be something for everyone whether it’s pointed pen, broad pen, layout, business, illumination or flourishing.

REGISTRATION: is for the entire week of classes. We do not take partial registrations or “per class” registrations. The fee you pay for the entire, information-packed week is what you might pay elsewhere for just one workshop.

CLOTHING: It will be hot outside, but the classrooms will still be chilly! Bring a sweatshirt or sweater. There is a restaurant in the hotel, but several others within walking distance. The banquet tends to be a bit fancier. Business - cocktail attire would be appropriate for the occasion. There is an outdoor pool and fitness center so if you’re inclined to take advantage of those, don’t forget your swim suit and workout clothes.

VENDOR: Brenda Broadbent from Paper and Ink Arts will be our vendor for the week, bringing all the items a penman could wish for! You may want to consider placing a pre-order, which Brenda will have available for you to pick up at the convention. Their website is www.paperinkarts.com Their phone number is 800-736-7772. You can place a pre-order until June 20th, and be sure to tell them that it is for pick-up at the IAMPETH convention.

DISPLAY YOUR WORK: There will be tables set up for displaying members work. Everyone always enjoys seeing what others have been working on. In this way we continue to be sources of encouragement and inspiration to each other. If you’re a beginner, please do not be intimidated to display your work proudly and also use this opportunity to show your work and get advice on how to improve your skills. Having others critique your work is the best way to learn how to get better.
