Master Penman Bill Lilly Interview

Mr. Willian Lilly passed away this weekend, leaving a legacy of students whom he had mentored and instructed in the fine art of calligraphy.  He created beautiful and functional oblique pen holders, cut paper into beautiful pieces of art, and produced amazing calligraphy pieces and envelopes.  He loved bicycling and roller blading, and always shared a smile with visitors.  His sense of humor was ever present and shared with all whom he met.

Mr. Lilly was a graduate of the Zanerian College of Penmanship, earning the coveted Gold Seal Certificate of Merit diploma. He was a Senior Master Penman for IAMPETH.  Although he was a master of numerous hands, most people know him best for his Engrosser's Script.  He frequently hosted students in his home, working with them in his studio, the walls of which were covered with his calligraphy and artwork, and with beautiful envelopes he had received from calligraphers around the world.

The IAMPETH organization and those of us who were fortunate to have known, studied with, and loved Mr. Lilly have lost a true friend, who will forever live in our memories.
